The Wild Sight

Here are some interesting facts about The Wild Sight:

• The village of Ballyneagh is wholly fictitious, but the other towns and cities in the book, Armagh, Dungannon, Ballymena, Portadown, Newtownabby, and of course Belfast all exist, though not exactly as portrayed by this author.
• The Giant's Causeway and Rathlin Island are also real locales and the author tried to render both as accurately as possible.
• The fens of Lough Neagh do exist, though not in the precise location presented in this story. These natural wetlands are extensive and located on both the east and west shores of the lough. At least one portion in County Armagh is designated as a national nature reserve.
• The Niall Marker is a real gender-specific genetic trait that has been traced back to the 5th Century High King of Ireland, Niall of the Nine Hostages. Research studies do indicate that as many as fifteen percent of the men in Ireland (both the Republic and the North) carry it.

Jewels of the Madonna

Here are some interesting facts about Jewels of the Madonna:

• The story was inspired by the opera of the same name, written by Venetian composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari in 1911.
• Pietro Lombardo really was a renown15th century Venetian architect. He and his sons, Tullio and Antonio did design and build the church Santa Maria dei Miracoli in 1485. Serafina, her sister Simonetta, and all the other characters in the story are wholly fictitious.
• The famous Renaissance artist Luca della Robbia did produce a beautiful and distinctive blue glaze for his ceramic sculptures, many of which can still be seen in the Bargello Museum in Florence.
• All the Venetian landmarks (the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto Bridge, San Michele en Isola, the train station, and the Procurati to name a few) are real locales which the author tried to portray as accurately as possible.
